The season of Advent begins on December 3rd, marking the beginning of a new Church year. It provides us with four weeks to recommit ourselves to Jesus, to welcome Christ into our hearts, and to make ourselves open to His grace.
December 3 at St. Martha's 10 am mass & December 10 at St. Mary's 9 am mass -- St. Nicholas will be visiting those masses (December 6 is the actual Feast of St. Nicholas). Children who leave their shoes in the narthex before those Masses might find surprises in their shoes after Mass! There will be no children’s Liturgy of the Word during those Masses, as St. Nick will provide a gospel presentation.
December 8 -- The Feast of the Immaculate Conception. This holy day of obligation celebrates Mary’s immaculate conception and her life dedicated to God. Mass times will be 8 am and 4 pm at St. Mary's, and 9 am and 6 pm at St. Martha's.
December 9 -- Due date for poster contest entries to the faith formation office of either church. The Wells Knights of Columbus are sponsoring a poster contest, entitled "Keeping Christ in Christmas". All parish children, ages 4 to 15, are eligible to compete in three different age categories for a cash prize. The poster should be created on a half-sheet of standard, white poster board.
December 9 -- First Reconciliation at 10:30 am at St. Mary's for second-year scholars. Reconciliation is a terrific family tradition, and one of the ways we prepare ourselves for Christ’s coming.
December 10 -- Deadline to hear from those children who would like to participate in the 6 pm Christmas Eve masses. Children involved in the Gospel presentation will dress up as the Holy Family, shepherds, angels, and stable animals, and act out the events surrounding Christ's birth. There will be two mandatory rehearsals, dates and times of which are yet to be determined. Please contact Carolyn Houston.
December 10 at St. Mary's 9 am mass & December 17 at St. Martha's 10 am mass -- Bambinelli Sunday. The blessing of baby Jesus from family creches will be celebrated. This tradition is native to Italy, where the Pope blesses the baby Jesus from family Nativity sets. Our parish families are encouraged to bring the baby Jesus from their family Nativity to be blessed during Mass.
December 12 -- Our high school youth ministry's second Matthew 25:35 meal will be held at St. Ignatius church hall in Sanford at 5:30 pm. Dinner will be served to anyone who needs a hot meal and/or longs to have company during mealtime.
